Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1773 No Period After Georgivs Virginia Halfpenny NGC AU-53
Lot Number: 472
Description: Newman 4-G, R.3 gets attribution as a "no period" obverse combined with a reverse of seven harp strings. The die-state seems typical, with die rust noticeable around the portrait, and the second "7" basically touching the crown. Some Newman die-marriages are commonly found red, or nearly so, but 4-G tends to be represented by lightly circulated to mint-state "brown" examples. In this case, it is the former situation where scant wear has effaced only the finest details, but left the planchet smooth and undamaged. Darker, near-ebony brown with slight reddish cast complete the picture.
