Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1879-CC NGC MS-63
Lot Number: 300
Description: Ready To Retire Collection. VAM-5 is easy to recognize by the polishing lines that dangle from the nostril, and it is sufficient to make attribution using only the obverse die. A beautiful example, the surface exudes rather attractive silvery blonde presence, frosty and intensely lustrous without being excessively bright (i.e., dipped), and therefore retaining a somewhat pleasant, vintage appearance. The upper reverse may be marginally splashed with subtle rose-grey tint, but it is hardly perceptible except under good, full spectrum white lighting. Strike quality can certainly vary for 1879-CC and the present example has the interesting dichotomy of a powerfully struck reverse, and more typically struck obverse. Many parallel roller marks remain present at the center of that side, precluding the best possible sharpness, although most collectors will see this as a nicely detailed example overall.
