Description: Although it is true that thousands of 1923-D double-eagles have been certified as gem or better pieces, the Denver mint may have exerted excessive striking pressure during their production run, as these are nearly always powerfully detailed. Liberty's face expresses remarkable definition, and extreme force of the dies resulted, at some point, in a fascinating die crack that arcs through IGWT, over the top of the sun on the reverse. An absolutely beautiful, radiant golden gem that features very few contact marks, with delightful silky-texture luster that cannot fail to impress.
