Description: 96 graded PR-67, 26 higher at NGC. While easy to appreciate with the naked eye, a loupe reveals visually stunning features for this superb Gem proof, including a strike that was rendered to perfection by the dies. The cataloger has probably never seen a more fully struck 1936 in so-called "brilliant" format. The horn, obviously fully outlined, also mounds upward in high elevation and has absolutely none of the flatness usually seen for circulation strikes (and sometimes seen on competing proof examples). Astonishing, molten citrus-gold color flows over and around the reflective obverse, surrounding the blood-orange center, while the reverse blooms with ice-blue and peppermint grey that flows into magenta and scarlet-amber hues. This appears to have been an early strike, given the faint punch marks that surround the date (seen as faint, rectangular lines) and yet an extremely elusive, near-vertical die line can be seen within the Indian's tresses. Truly a remarkable highlight within today's sale, and a no-question contender for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
