Lot Title: 1866 Rays and 1869, both PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 764
Description: It seems a shame the shield nickel series remains so underappreciated since pretty examples, such as this duo, are vastly affordable to collectors of even typical means. 1866 "with rays" features exceptionally attractive album iridescence arranged in almost perfectly concentric circles on both sides - a rather rare and unusual feat for the type. Silvery iron-grey lays over both sides of the 1869, with the obverse sparkling with slightly more pristine character than the reverse. A reasonably nice strike enhances the latter coin, but neither could be considered fully struck within this two coin lot.
