Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1926-S NGC MS-64 BN
Lot Number: 738
Description: 72 graded MS-64 BN, 8 higher at NGC. Strike quality most definitely exceeds the norm for the issue, as both sides display surprisingly sharp inner details, including a full bowtie for Mr. Lincoln, and generally fully realized kernels for the wheat stalks. Turning to the reverse helps reveal why many pieces subsequently struck of these same dies would have shown poor detail, because this die is starting to fail severely. A fairly dramatic die crack penetrates both stalks of wheat, joined by another angling downward over ONE on the reverse. Despite the (correct) "brown" designation, significant cherry-red peeps through the brown patina, lending additional interest to a readily recognizable semi-key cent.
