Lot Title: 1873 No Arrows, Open 3 PCGS VF-25
Lot Number: 875
Description: Zodiac Consignment. Ex-NGC 3605529-001 at the same grade. 1 graded VF-25, 16 higher at PCGS. Without arrows, Philadelphia's 1873 "open 3" half-dollar instantly becomes a celebrity of unusually strong captivation for the collectors of the series, because very few survived the re-melting that converted most into the far more common "with arrows" type. Such is the rarity of this issue that the assigned PCGS VF-25 must be considered a high grade for the date considering fewer than twenty that exceed the quality. Given the level of circulation, the surfaces are notably free from distractions, especially on the obverse, and either side displays placid iron-grey patina and near-charcoal accents that most any collector will appreciate.
