Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1911-D Strong D PCGS AU-58 CACCAC
Lot Number: 239
Description: Mintage: 55,680. The "D" mintmark in this case is as strong, as bold, and as accurately defined as a collector will ever see for the issue. Were there not in place already a reputation for missing mintmarks, or otherwise weak examples, one might never expect that Denver ever had strike issues for 1911, given this singular piece. Add to that the fact that the surface is completely natural and original in character, and one has a spectacular key in the perfect AU-58 grade. Splashes of grey patina drape isolated areas and prove that the surface has never been cleaned or altered in any way, outside the proper channels of commerce. Some coins are special in their time and place, and that is precisely what the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award is intended to designate.
