Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1839 NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 212
Description: 9 graded MS-61, 4 higher at NGC. One pair of dies struck all 1839 classic-head quarter-eagles, and the defining characteristic is the crudely struck final digit, which appears to be "9/8" at first glance, and the repunched "183". The excellent level of preservation seen here allows for easy visibility of these features, as well as all of the details pretty close to how they were struck, which is to say, with a very fair level of precision. Each of the segments within the eagle's claws has been distinctly impressed by the dies, although the highest points of all the curls in Liberty's hair defy absolute sharpness. Glancing at the surface with an angled vantage point produces the appearance of butterscotch splashes over the slightly pale overall golden predominance. Vague hairlines on the cheek likely ascertain the grade.
