Description: Shawl Consignment. 8 graded MS-63, 50 higher at PCGS. Hands-down one of the main keys to a complete set, 1897-S proves to be extremely challenging at the choice and better uncirculated grades. Minor planchet lines stretch across portions of the reverse, becoming readily apparent within the juncture of both wings, but the strike has solidly brought up each obverse star. An especially flashy half-dollar, the bright fields and frosty motifs suggest semi-prooflike character that might earn a "star" at some other grading service (wink).
