Description: Bert Davies Collection. Logan-McCloskey-10 (R.3) begins attribution by noting the diamond-shaped space between the first star and the lowest two curls, and on the reverse, the point of a leaf aligns with the left foot of "I" in LIBERTY. The obverse die was used only on LM-10, and one glance at the huge cud over TY helps explain why, as this die was not destined to be remarried to a newer reverse die once it's usefulness had passed. Still, this is one of the "common" die marriages for 1795 as the dies were used to exhaustion. It may be worth noting that both sides are completely free from adjustment marks.

Without delving into the question of how "original" this example is (who can say where a 200+ year old coin has been for all it's history?), suffice it to say that magnified examination of the surface reveals lovely pewter-grey predominating the appearance, with a gentle nudge toward denser grey toward the rims. Aside from a number of ancient, wispy hairlines, and possibly a very faint (and completely innocuous) initial "H" in the obverse upper left field, the surface features pleasing freedom from untoward marks, and displays no stains or other distractions.
