Description: VAM-4 features the "spiked date", so named due to a handful of tiny spines on "18" in the date. The VAM reference shows a photo of an example in typical frosty die-state, but that is as far as reality gets when compared to this absolutely floor-rattling, drop-dead gorgeous proof clone. There was a time when ANACS offered an "ULTRA DEEP CAMEO PROOFLIKE" designation for the first handful of examples that dropped off the dies, and possessed laser-flat mirrors, but the closest comparable assessment NGC can offer is DMPL-"star". Either way, the maximum designation fits. The fields appear to present absolutely no flowline luster at all, and so early are the dies that micro -thin bands of die polish bridge the small gaps of field area between design elements of close proximity, such as around the eagle's tail feathers. And further, the frosted "glory" that surrounds the eagle displays stunning milk-white presence for this truly early strike. Obvious technical considerations bar full gem assessment, but astute specialists of the series will most certainly elbow to the front of the crowd for a shot at this blistering white example. Count the cataloger amongst those wanting to enter the fray for this winner of the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
