Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1799 PCGS G-6
Lot Number: 329
Description: Bolender-22, BB-168 R.4 (various sources suggest R.5) is one of the easiest die-marriages to identify for the entire series, as a huge die-crack spans the reverse completely from left to right, such that the upper half is better struck than the lower half. Die specialists will find an obverse crack extending upward from the rim between "17" on the obverse, identifying an intermediate state for that side. As a type, the PCGS G-6 grade makes sense, but this particular die-marriage always has a weak obverse, and judging by the level of wear seen on the reverse, the true grade is in the Fine range. A strictly original example, the cataloger does note an unimportant scratch (at this grade) dangling from the eagle's right (observed) wing.
