Description: 11 graded AU-53, 28 higher at PCGS. Somewhat more available than some of the truly scarce Charlotte fives, the 1841-C nevertheless proves challenging at the better AU grades. The distinctive lemon-yellow nearly always seen for southern gold makes the usual appearance here, with the surface showing the plethora of minuscule ticks that are also almost always seen. A squiggly scratch at "AT" on the upper reverse serves as a reminder of how many hands tended to circulate these difficult half-eagles.
