Lot Title: 1896 S-6 HK-780 Bryan $ Gorham Manufacturing MS-62, and a 1900 S-12 HK-783 Bryan $ Reeded, Gorham UNC detail/scratched, both NGC
Lot Number: 1081
Description: NY Marathon Collection. Superb, natural color (for a silver coin) endows the entire surface of HK-780, a well-loved example that features a life-sized "cartwheel" on the reverse illustrating the size of an actual Federal silver dollar by comparison. Numerous tiny, wispy hairlines have infiltrated the field and indicate trivial issues with storage. Unlike other "Bryan dollars", HK-780 appears to have been an illustrative offering, rather than a satire on Federal issues, as it details the amount of silver necessary to reach the full value of a gold dollar, by comparison to the contemporary Morgan dollars then in circulation. Accompanying is HK-783, which offers the same content as a Federal dollar, but also states the coin's alleged "net value" by comparison to a gold dollar. This piece has been deemed "scratched" by NGC on account of some hairline scrapes at the bottom of the reverse. Two coin lot.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
