Lot Title: 1878-CC PCGS MS-63
Lot Number: 450
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. 5 graded MS-63, 8 higher at PCGS. Technical aspirations include rather pleasing, active mint luster that bathes the devices within silver-bright luminescence. Carson City was producing high-quality half-dollars (and silver dollars, of course) during the late 1870s, and this example is no exception, as it display very sharp delineation of Liberty's tresses, and even her feet display bold definition. The eagle's motif benefits from exactingly sculpted feathers in every instance, with full segmentation of the talons perfectly represented. Some very brief coral-gold toning blends inward from portions of the rim, specifically above Liberty's portrait and around most of the reverse.
