Description: 4 graded MS-62, 14 higher at NGC. A sizable mintage of 2 millions coins greatly misrepresents the scarcity of 1842-O in high grades. For some reason, it is a common issue at VF and lower levels, but becomes a substantial rarity at the present MS-62 grade. And make no mistake about it, NGC has nailed the near-choice grade quite admirably as the coin retains a very fair amount of original luster, succumbing to violet accents on some high relief portions of the design. Platinum-beige splashes into the fields on both sides and modestly suppresses the luster, which may help explain how the quality just missed upgrade to fully choice assessment.
