Lot Title: 1904 World's Fair German Plaque with Box

Description: The original presentation box accompanies, although the top has broken loose from the full-length hinge. This is presumed to be reparable. This is a high-relief, lost wax cast "award plaque" from the 1904 Louisiana Exposition, which the cataloger believes to be very close to Choice Mint State condition, despite some minor staining of the reverse. Quoting directly from the certificate included:

"The plaque has been cast in bronze by Messrs. H Gladenbeck & Son, Ltd., bronze founders, Berlin from a design of the sculptor Peter Breuer, Berlin, a member of the Senate of the Royal Academy of Arts, and represents Germany and America. The motto on the obverse

ARTA - ARTIS - VINCULA

f(Close are the ties of industrial life) has been supplied by Professor Bruno Keil at Strassburg in Alsace Lorraine. On the reverse the German house with adjoining cascades of the World's Fair, is depicted.
