Lot Title: 1846 PCGS AU-55
Lot Number: 415
Description: Gavin "John" Rose Collection. Mintage: 31,300. 4 graded AU-55, 4 higher at PCGS. The 1844 gets much attention as a key to the series due to various informal promotions throughout the years, but the 1846 saw less than half the mintage of its more-hoarded cousin, and in fact, it has the lowest emission of any Redbook "variety 2" dime. Pastel-grey patina adorns this minimally toned example, attended by a hint of peach-grey on the reverse. Trivial handling marks define a quick pass through circulation before the coin was retrieved for posterity. Crisply defined and a strong representative for the date.
