Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1883 PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 417
Description: 23 graded MS-64, 8 higher at PCGS. A very low mintage of 900 pieces explains why so many 1883s are prooflike, although the present example displays mostly typical luster with hints of flashy texture throughout the fields. Strangely, about half of examples seen tend to be mint-state, although few approach gem status. A sharp strike points to minimally used dies, such that even the lower curls of the hair are rather distinctly separated. Stray marks favor the right field just slightly even while overall, this coin managed to evade most of the bagmarks that often plague other issues within the series.
