Lot Title: 1855 $20 Kellogg and Company Short Arrows AU in a Capital Plastics holder
Lot Number: 301
Description: Morals And Liberty Collection. Kagin-3b (R.5) "short arrows" reverse. Cataloger's grade: [AU-50]. Lightly worn overall and not showing any blatant singular issues, the surface has managed to fend off the major contact marks that are often seen on such large, heavy coins. Kellogg & Company produced fewer double-eagles in 1855 than they had in the prior year and catalog values generally reflect that fact. The surface has likely been trivially cleaned at one time, as can be inferred by delicate sporadic hairlines, and some light reedmarks show in the obverse left field, joined by few delicate abrasions within the lines of the shield.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
