Lot Title: 1931-S NGC MS-67
Lot Number: 942
Description: 9 graded MS-67, zero higher at NGC, tying this coin as the finest known to that grading service. Surprising to many, 1931-S has the second lowest mintage of the series, preceded only by 1926-S, although this date does not usually show the pre-striking issues frequently found for the earlier date. For instance, the planchet displays zero technical issues and received a very good strike from the dies, nor does the luster lack for vibrancy in the slightest.

On top of that, the phenomenal eye-appeal is the result of a combination of incredible preservation, sensational toning and a borderline ideal pattern. Color include shimmering rainbow tones all the way around the obverse, surrounding ice-blue, violet-pink and lavender hues. There is a similar looking example in a PCGS holder of like grade with a CAC sticker, and the cataloger suggests this might actually be a slightly nicer example; "that other coin" has a scrape on the brow while here, there is simply no contact whatsoever worthy of mention.
