Description: The First Through Last Collection. Dazzling white with prodigious die polish in the fields, the surface is fresh and about as clean as the day the coin left San Francisco. One can imagine this coin left the dies only shortly after a brief run of prooflike specimens, given the modest cameo contrast. Details appear to be fully struck, even at the forehead and at the elbows of the eagle's talons. The list of accolades goes on and on, tempered only by the presence of three small contact marks on the cheek. One of the all-time "stoppers" against a gem collection of the series, the 1896-S joins 1901-S and 1913-S in defiance of most any collector's attempts to assemble a complete date and mintmark collection.
