Lot Title: 1919-S NGC MS-64+ CACCAC
Lot Number: 819
Description: 5 graded MS-64+, 28 higher at NGC. At or above the choice grade level, 1919-S becomes a stopper within the series, and upon the cusp of the gem grade... well, just look out. The date must surely be on par with the more heavily publicized 1921-S as far as elusiveness toward a complete collection. Curiously enough, collectors have noted that for 1919-PDS and 1921-PDS, the San Francisco emissions are largest, yet somehow they are the rarest within their respective years in high grade.

As a delicately toned example, feeble champagne patina layers over the marvelous, satin-laden surface, permitting intense, frosty luster to shine through. This coin received an excellent strike from the dies, producing bold head details and most of the possible definition over Liberty's thumb and fingers. One bold, slightly erratic abrasion rests in the obverse right field and represents likely the only deterrent from upgrade, but a few other utterly trivial nicks and bagmarks exist as well on the obverse. The reverse hardly sees any sign of contact at all.
