Lot Title: 1844-O Doubled Date ICG AU-50
Lot Number: 739
Description: Wiley-Bugert-103, FS-301, die-pair 22, is considered by many collectors to be the ultimate repunched date across all series(!), as all four digits can be seen elevated far above the proper placement of the date. The variety has been recognized for decades as somewhat scarce but obtainable, and always very desirable; it easily rivals and exceeds even the greatest date-punching blunders in the preceding Capped Bust half-dollar series. ICG correctly attributes the variety and date on the slab. Gunmetal lilac-grey enshrouds the fields, thinning slightly toward tin-silver on the highpoints. A remarkable, problem-free example.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
