Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1842-O Small Date, Reverse of 1839 VF details
Lot Number: 737
Description: Cataloger's grade: [VF/rim bumps] which overall are not overwhelmingly distracting for this rare die-marriage. The original design for the Seated Liberty series called for small numerals in the date, replaced later in 1842 with medium digits and creating a rarity for the earlier logotype. Characteristic for the date is the weak strike seen here; the coin has very-fine details but looks practically a grade lower due to softness broadly distributed through the centers. An exceptionally difficult half-dollar for the collector trying to complete a date and major variety collection.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
