Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1906-D PCGS MS-64+
Lot Number: 495
Description: McCallum Collection. 63 graded MS-64+, 24 higher at PCGS. Denver served as an assay office before it started striking gold and silver coinage in 1906, and that may help partially explain the popularity of the 1906-D double-eagle. It's possible that the novelty of the new mint caused a number of initial strikings to be saved by collectors as this emission tends to come nice to the market. Here is an on-the-cusp gem that possesses delightful, finely frosted surface texture overall and seemingly a gem-plus reverse. Very faint abrasions occasion Liberty's cheek and undoubtedly explain why PCGS couldn't quite settle upon the next full grade.
