Description: McCallum Collection. Mintage: 2442. An exceptionally rare key within the "no motto" series, the 1863 is a Civil War date that is collectable in every possible grade, and even when impaired, as is indicated by the PCGS "altered surface". Granted, the surface does offer an odd appearance with consistent drabness seen everywhere, but closer examination reveals unexpectedly sharp features and no impact damage or other mechanical issues other than the aforementioned peculiar texture. Perusing the population reports of both services, and discounting regrades, it appears that fewer than sixty pieces have ever been certified.
