Lot Title: Mercury Dime Set minus 1916-D, and Walking Liberty short-set
Lot Number: 278
Description: Whitman Blue Collection. While neither set could be considered magnificent by most standards, either will garner attention due to the appeal of such collections in simple, classic, wholesome format. First is a set of Mercury dimes lacking only 1916-D for which the space is not actually available ("RARE" plug). None appears UNC, but the set shows vast improvement over a typical low-grade collection since so many individuals grade in the VF/XF range, and virtually all show some evidence of album toning. In a few instances, the toning nears outstanding. Better pieces include: 1921 (VF details), 1925-D (XF details) 1926-S (XF details), 1927-D (XF details), 1927-S (AU details), 1928-D (AU details), 1928-S (AU details), 1930-S (XF details and extensive color), and 1931-D (XF details/color). The cataloger spot checked and verified that numerous pieces have color on both sides, but it is also evident that most coins have been cleaned. Accompanying is a Walking Liberty half-dollar short-set that has a fair mixture of AU and UNC pieces, some with modest color, but a surprising number also showing scattered small spots, as if moisture damage occurred at some point. Here again, cleaning is evident for a few pieces.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
