Description: Whitman Blue Collection. First, potential bidders should know that as a teenager in the 1940s, the consignor collected every single coin out of circulation. Unfortunately, unlike most sets he put together, the consignor was very fond of "bright copper", and cleaned every single Indian cent and Wheat cent through 1940 plus many later pieces. During his "collect from circulation" years, he was evidently able to purchase an advertised "coin cleaning kit" which came with chemicals and stiff bristle brushes, and the effects of their use are evident even today. Most of teh coins have toned back only a little, and the consignor is aware today that probably 75% of the potential value has been lost. Nevertheless, Indian cents show a surprisingly amount of sharpness and detail for many pieces, albeit the coins were as "young" as forty years old when added to the album. Highlights with [DETAILS ONLY] might include: 1873 (XF), 1874 (VF), 1879 (XF), 1880 (XF), 1882 (AU), 1883 (AU), 1884 (XF), 1909-S wheat (VG), 1911-S (VF), 1914-D (F), 1924-D (F), 1926-S (VF), and 1931-S (F). MISSING are: 1859, 1877, 1909-S Indian, 1909-S VDB, 1922 plain (no slot in such old albums), 1953, and of course, all varieties.
