Description: KM#9, Canton of Appenzell, and a one year type that saw a lowly mintage of 2,357 pieces. Hailing from the a small canton in northeast Switzerland, Appenzell was independent of, but entirely surrounded by the canton of St. Gallen and only existed for most of the 15th and 16th centuries. A somewhat prooflike coin as is usually the case for this rare type, the surface appears glossy but also shows even gunmetal toning with hints of tan nearer the borders.
