Description: Thermofax Collection. KM#66, Dav-4953, provincial Holland. An exceptionally beautiful example of this rare, one-year emission, the obverse depicts a Dutch maiden as Pallas, while the classic rampant lion dominates the reverse. While not truly prooflike even by contemporary standards, the fields have taken on the polished texture of the dies and somehow emphasize exquisitely sharp delineation of the devices. Iridescent cobalt tones enter the outer periphery and surround salmon-peach and coral-grey centers. Struck during Holland's golden age as the premier maritime power of old Europe.
