Description: The Supernova Collection. Die pair BB-3, with an "X" in the top of the eagle's right (observed) wing. Absolutely and unquestionably stone-cold white, the surface is completely brilliant and free from even a whisper of toning. That only adds to dramatic white-on-black contrast that seems virtually impossible of post-Civil War era minting technology. The mirrors are so glassy and pristine that this assuredly must have been one of the earliest dollars to fall off of proof dies in 1866. The cataloger found zero contact marks worthy of mention, a few feathery hairlines overall, and one pedigree marker: a little strike through clinging to the extreme left edge of the eagle's portrait.

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
