Description: The Supernova Collection. In terms of numismatic desirability as a type, few U.S. coins rival the 1907 "high relief". Sheer, matte-satin quality to the fields has a mesmerizing effect as the sheen shifts and changes with differing angles of lighting. Liberty's breast and knee are struck virtually to maximum relief and do not show obvious flatness or bright areas, as are often seen on abraded examples. The "wire edge" examples are not a separate variety, but merely call out intense striking pressure that drove metal up between the dies and collar. The disadvantage for collectors is that these sometimes show inevitable, delicate nicks as are present here. Fortunately, these are far outside the primary focal areas, leaving behind a delightful representation of this perennially popular classic.
