Description: 12 graded MS-64+, 3 higher at PCGS. Despite being the most "common" Carson City half-eagle, scarcely any gems exist and only a dozen borderline pieces have been certified at PCGS. This one appears to be only half a smidgeon off the gem grade level as the surface shows absolutely no major marks, but does feature a number of extremely tiny surface abrasions that, in aggregate, must be all that denies upgrade. Rich orange toning layers over the entire surface, deepening ever so slightly toward the obverse right side. A phenomenal piece for the type collector who simply must have a Carson City in the (near) finest grade possible.
