Description: 38 graded MS-64, 22 higher at NGC. While not rare as a date, "closed 3" 1873 quarter-eagles appear to be significantly rarer than the "open 3" logotype of the year's mintage at Philadelphia. Furthermore, the population reports show fewer than two dozen graded higher than the present, ideally assessed very-choice example. Subtly clashed dies did not prevent an exceptional strike and both sides gleam with brightly frosted golden texture. Mere superficial storage abrasions detract from upgrade consideration.
