Lot #: Go
Lot Title: Undated C. Bechtler $1 gold North Carolina 30 grains reeded edge K-1 PCGS XF-45
Lot Number: 224
Description: Kagin-1 (R.4). Struck by Christopher Bechtler within approximately 1831 - 1834 but undated. Historic significance of these privately struck coins is that they represent the first emission of gold dollars produced within the United States. In addition to the explicit denomination ONE GOLD DOLLAR, the nominal weight is listed as 30.G. A fascinating example, this choice extremely-fine displays curious veining over the dust-gold surface, which suggests a poorly annealed flan prior to striking. A single angular dig above the statement of weight is worth mentioning.
