Lot Title: 1923-D PCGS MS-67
Lot Number: 477
Description: The First Through Last Collection. 95 graded MS-67, one graded MS-67+, zero higher at PCGS. A curious anomaly for 1923-D is that gem examples are actually very common, but as always, a truly superb example proves to be truly difficult. This is a known hoard date for which bag quantities existed at European and African continent banks, but unlike a typical hoard survivor, this astonishing example shows virtually zero contact marks on the obverse, although fleeting abrasions step on a few of the sun's rays on the reverse. Add to the pristine storage the fact that branch-mint Saints are often beautifully produced, and one has a recipe for something special The details are extremely well struck and luster simply explodes off the surface, even though both dies were partially cracked during production. One crack through LIBERTY is often seen on other 1923-Ds, but the reverse has another spearing "I" in IN on the reverse. A few delicate copper spots can be found with persistence.
