Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1909/8 PCGS MS-62
Lot Number: 458
Description: FS-301, the 1909/8 overdate, was first reported by Edgar Adams, an early 20th century numismatist with an interesting St. Louis connection. At the 1904 Summer Olympics, Adams brought home the silver medal in what was then the "plunge for distance" event and also placed in several other events. Perhaps even more curious is that Adams became a swimmer only as therapy for an accident that occurred in 1880. He had been shot and severely injured in the left leg, the injury shortening the limb by 4-6 inches and forcing him to walk with a cane thereafter. This is a pleasing example for the grade, showing nice luster and a somewhat choice appearance, discounted by a point due to a few too many bagmark abrasions.
