Lot Title: 1836 NGC MS-61
Lot Number: 336
Description: Jody Harrison Collection. McCloskey 2-B (R.4), second head, large date. Famous for the obverse is the thin bisecting die crack that descends from the eight star, down the portrait and reaching all the way to "6" in the date. While this lends much interest to the coin, it is the much better condition that will drive most of the appeal for type collectors as the classic head is not rare as a type, but does prove elusive in certified mint-state grades. These surfaces display a fair amount of abrading but still retain flashing hints of luster beneath canary-gold patina. Discovery of a tiny corrosive spot at the juncture of the right (observed) wing on the reverse requires mention.
