Lot Title: China - 1911 $1 Y-31, L&M-37 - PCGS XF-40
Lot Number: 141
Description: Jerry Odom Collection. KM#Y31, Hsuan-t'ung Year 3 (1911), Tientsin mint. Extra flame, no period after DOLLAR. Extremely popular with collectors, this imperial issue is technically not rare, but examples continue to sell for very strong money within all selling venues. Incredibly, the most expensive example the cataloger has seen is actually a cleaned UNC that has sold for more than competing gems! This merely points out the intense competition for any reasonable specimen, which is more than exemplified here. PCGS correctly identifies this as a completely problem-free specimen and the cataloger notes exquisitely original surface enshrouded mostly in tan-grey patina but with much ebony-purple accenting of the obverse. A handful or so old circulation marks scatter toward the obverse center but blend in well with the overall presentation, permitting the coin to qualify for the Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award.
