Struck in an economy when the high price of silver resulted in extensive melting of minor coinage, the 1851 rarely achieves mint-state status and high-end circulated examples typically fill in this very difficult spot for many collections. LIBERTY stands out full and bold, joined by a plethora of finer details that suggest light circulation. Nicely toned with original patina, some album colors have begun descending inward from the rims.
