Description: On Target Collection. 10 graded PR-64 CAM, 7 higher at NGC. Granted that there are other designations possible besides "cameo", NGC would still consider this one of the finest 1904s with any sort of designation because no 1904 ten-dollar has ever received a UCAM or DCAM designation from the major services. It is an important distinction since proof gold of this era tended to downplay contrast and potential suitors for a terrific type example ought to take time to examine the outstanding mirrors shown. They appear to be as reflective as those seen on many DCAM gold coins and the designation may be held back simply because the devices display not enough frost to disqualify the contrast from DCAM. Still, all legends, stars, and major devices exhibit consistent frosty texture. Prooflike circulation strikes also exist, but only the one true proof obverse die has a brief die line through the curl beneath the ear and it shows clearly here. Everything a collector could hope for in this appealing and difficult arena of U.S. coinage.
