Lot Title: $100 Obsolete - 1864 Oil City, Pennsylvania PA380G14a, PMG VG-10
Lot Number: 2
Description: Tobacco Road Consignment. A relatively low serial number jives with the fact that these limited Civil War issues almost never appear on the market in high denomination, while the more common tens do show up from time to time, and the fives are occasionally seen. Beginning in 1866, the National Bank Act placed a ten percent tax on such notes, causing their rapid decline from circulation. This example shows the edge chips and folds that are common to the VG level, as well as up to two fistfuls of very faint pinholes, but for such a rare type, the paper remains nicely intact. Strictly original and very, very difficult to find with no problems noted on the third-party holder.
Estimate: $900-$1,000
