Lot Title: Complete Collection of Peace Dollars in a Whitman Classic 9130
Lot Number: 822
Description: Tobacco Road Collection. Collectors of toned silver dollars know well how much rarer nice examples of Peace dollars are compared to Morgan dollars. The cataloger has never found a wholly acceptable explanation but storage mechanics might well play a role in why coins from the two series tone so differently. Here is a complete set comprised entirely of Peace dollars with varying shades of color, and which the consignor sought out for around two decades, starting with a partially filled Whitman album. His goal was to create a fully BU set out of only non-certified pieces, although the cataloger suggests for 1934-S a grade of [AU/improperly toned] due to the curiously steely gunmetal hue. Interestingly, 1926-D offers very similar color yet somehow looks more natural. The rest of the pieces also appear UNC, including 1921 (endowed with ocean-blue and russet gold), 1922-S (splashy cobalt-purple and fiery orange of debatable origin), 1923-D (mulberry and grapefruit layers), 1923-S (very attractive with linear toning pattern), 1924-S (also with linear color and unusually nicely toned for the date), 1925-S (greenish grey obverse and Crayola palette on the reverse), 1927 (distinctively ringed colors), 1927-D (ocean-blue and orange), 1927-S (iridescent cobalt-blue), 1928 in [MS-62] (attractive border colors highly unusual for the key date), 1928-S (not as nice toning), 1934 (delightfully attractive), 1934-D (exceptionally attractive album color) and 1935-S (also exceptionally beautiful).

This lot may contain an item not certified by ANACS, PCGS, or NGC. While Scotsman Auction Co. is typically conservative in our descriptions of items not certified by one of these companies, we cannot guarantee our grading estimation will match their grade. We highly recommend that collectors seeking items certified by a third-party grading service only bid on items that have already been certified. No lot can be returned because of a variance in judgment with regards to grade.
