Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1887 NGC MS-63 Star DPL
Lot Number: 656
Description: Enjoys It Collection. Today, the two predominant grading services offer "PL" and "DMPL" designations (more or less, depending upon spelling), but there was a time when ANACS dominated and had available a highly desirable UDM (ultra deep mirror prooflike) designation that is still hotly pursued today. Those slabs have largely disappeared from the marketplace, and the closest available designation today, in the cataloger's opinion, is an NGC "DMPL" plus a star designation. Here is just such a coin. Incredible mirrors almost defy belief as even through the slab, the fields accurately reflect objects five feet away! The mirrors are so flat and ravishing that no actual mint luster shows. A truly staggering coin with no toning, the cameo contrast could not be more profound between pure frost-white devices that seem to float atop invisible space. The Scotsman Cataloger's Choice Award is reserved for coins of such space-bending eye-appeal.
