Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1879-CC PCGS MS-64
Lot Number: 578
Description: New Scotland Consignment. VAM-5, clear mintmark. Look for some spiky defects that descend from Liberty's nose to most rapidly narrow down attribution. Earlier coins may be prooflike, and even this one offers some reflectivity emanating from the fields, as well substantial cameo frost on the devices, but by the time the dies reached middle state, a tiny chip developed on the left side of the "8".

Still, this is clearly an exceptionally well struck Carson City -- second only to 1889-CC in terms of scarcity from Nevada. While a number of microscopic chippy abrasions graze the surface, the fields appear essentially clean and almost pristine at arm's length. A small, diagonal oblong nick on the eagle's lower breast practically blends in, joined by a tiny rough spot hanging beneath "God".
