Description: Sheldon-266c, with the identifying cuds over RTY and MERIC. The 1804 needs no introduction as to its key status, but what is curious is that PCGS chose "tooled" nomenclature. Rather, the coin is moderately microporous and has been subsequently carefully burnished and recolored so as to impose a definite improvement in eye-appeal. For a date that, like 1799, famously brooks few arguments, a compromise toward sharpness in favor of surface condition greets the new owner of this relatively desirable large cent.
