Lot #: Go
Lot Title: 1887 PCGS MS-67
Lot Number: 838
Description: Dabble Collection. Mintage: 5001. 2 graded MS-67, zero higher at PCGS. NGC has never graded an 1887 3-cent nickel higher than MS-66, so without exaggeration, the present shimmering example might be tied with one other example as the finest known. Presumably, that "other" example is the Eliasberg coin. The dies clashed heavily, and multiple times before this coin was produced; a rare edge die break shows at the obverse extreme far left. Nevertheless, the dies brought up profoundly accurate details, including a blatant legible mirror image of LIBERTY through the bottom of the wreath. Silken luster shines with the silver platinum brilliance peculiar to the type, with no actual toning visible aside from a faint greyish fingerprint remnant at the reverse left.
