Description: Rum'N'Cola Collection. 9 graded PR-68 UCAM, 4 graded higher or with a star designation at NGC. Proof manufacture seems to have simply been better, faster and stronger in Philadelphia during the 1890s, as the mint was then capable of producing outrageous, near-miraculous quality levels that would actually diminish in vibrancy during the first few years of the ensuing century. This astounding 1896 Barber quarter bears testament to that assessment as NGC places its grade essentially on the cusp of perfection for the type. Inimitably deep, placid silver mirrors stretch from edge to edge between the design elements and even within the tiny recesses of every single letter on either side. White-on-black effect could not be more pronounced and the puffy texture that layers the devices possesses remarkably cottony texture. A tiny "S" shaped strike-through thread on the cheek provides a provenance marker for future generations.
